Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

General FAQs

I’ve found the perfect house on your site! How do I get more information or set up an appointment?

If you’re interested in a home on our site, but need further information than what is displayed, you should contact the estate agent shown next to the property, using the contact details provided with each property. You can either phone or click the button marked ’contact agent’, or you can go direct to their website.

I emailed an estate agent from the site and they've not responded

We're sorry to hear that an estate agent has not responded to your enquiry. Once we've passed an enquiry on, how an agent deals with it is, of course, up to them.

It may be worth phoning the agent instead, telling them that you've emailed but got no response. If you saved the property, go to your saved properties, and get the agent's details from there. If you did not save the property, either re-do the search, or find the agent's details.

There's a specific agent I'm looking for. How do I find them?

Go to our find an agent section, and enter the area or the name of the agent you're looking for.

How do I find an estate agent to sell or let my property?

Go to our find an agent section, and enter your area to find the names and details of propertyfinder member agents in that area.

Is propertyfinder an estate agent?

No, propertyfinder is a property portal which advertises the properties of estate agents, lettings agents and developers who pay to do so. Think of us like a newspaper, on a national scale, advertising over 175,000 properties!

My own home is for sale or to let. Can I advertise it on propertyfinder?

propertyfinder only contains information on homes for sale through estate agents, lettings agents or property developers. If you are selling your home privately, you cannot sell it here.

To find an estate agent who will advertise your property on propertyfinder, go to our find an agent section. If you already have an agent, please ask them to advertise it on propertyfinder.

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has a free booklet, Using an estate agent to buy or sell your home, consumer advice leaflet OFT157, which is available on their web site or call 0870 6060321.

Will it cost me anything to use propertyfinder?

No, propertyfinder is completely free for searching for property. By registering with us, you can save your property searches in your folder, so that you can perform the same searches on another visit.

You can also set up to receive emails to alert you to properties matching your search requirements coming onto the site.

Who owns propertyfinder?

Started in 1995, propertyfinder was the UK’s pioneer in the property portal market. Propertyfinder was purchased in November 2005 by Australia’s no.1 property portal, realestate.com.au, and News International, owners of The Times, The Sunday Times, The Sun, the News of the World, and London Property News – offering us unrivalled ability to raise propertyfinder’s profile among home movers.

FAQs on our property database

Does propertyfinder have information on all the homes available nationwide?

No. There's no single source for all property information, so propertyfinder works with estate agents, lettings agents and developers all over the country to gain information on homes for sale within the UK. Currently we have around 175,000 properties available nationwide at any one time.

How can I find which estate agents are contributing to propertyfinder?

Our find an agent section will allow you to search for propertyfinder member agents in your area.

How often does propertyfinder get new listings?

Every working day. We refresh our property data (add new ones and remove sold properties) on a daily basis automatically from estate agents' databases, thus ensuring property information is kept up-to-date.

Do estate agents who use propertyfinder put all their homes on this site?

Nearly all of our agents upload all of their properties.

I believe the details of a property to be incorrect. How can this be corrected?

Whatever your enquiry regarding a home found on the site, you should contact the agent advertised next to the property, using the contact details shown, or click the 'contact agent' button next to the property.

Why can't I see the full address of the property?

For security of the seller and their property, the full address of each property for sale is available only via the agent.
